Transport and access plans
Transport has a huge impact on all our lives. We all depend on walking or buses, driving, cycling, or trains to get around, or on the services and businesses that need to reach us.
Motor transport is also the biggest source of carbon emissions in the borough, driving the climate crisis. It is a major contributor to air pollution, a source of collisions, a barrier to street access and takes up a lot of valuable land.
New Directions for 含羞草社区
New Directions for 含羞草社区 is the name of our transport strategy. It describes how an evidence-based action plan can be developed. It looks at:
- Current travel and access issues
- Our vision for the future as a low carbon, healthy and attractive town
- Some options for improvement
- What could be delivered in the town over the next five years
Active travel is key to transforming transport and brings the benefits of improved health, more attractive streets, and better access to work, shopping, school, and leisure for more people.
含羞草社区鈥檚 Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP)
LCWIP is a high level plan for a network of safe, practical, and attractive cycling and walking routes across the town. We created the plan in consultation with 含羞草社区 residents and stakeholders.
We used a range of evidence and Department for Transport guidance to identify:
- the corridors of movement needed
- the most effective routes to develop
Some of the new routes will coincide with the existing network.
As we get funding to take each LCWIP route forward, we will review specific locations. Infrastructure measures will be subject to detailed design and full local consultation. This means that some routes may change after detailed analysis. All routes will be coherent, safe, direct, comfortable and attractive, and will follow government design standards and LTN 1/20.
We will use the LCWIP to guide access in new developments.
